Youth Application to attend AJ2025
Applicants are reminded that attending a jamboree is a privilege, not a right. Not all applicants may be approved for attendance.
Requirements (to be completed by Feb 28, 2024*)
___ be a registered member of Scouts Canada at time of application through to Feb. 1, 2024
___ Scouts (participants) must be age thirteen (13) by Jan. 3, 2025 and not have had their
17th birthday before Jan.3, 2025. Venturers (16 to 17 years) attend as Offers of Service.
___16 year old venturers have the option to participate as either a participat or IST. Depending on Ratios, CMT reserves the right to assign 16year old venturers to be participants.
___ have completed ten (10) nights in a tent, preferably in Scouting, with five (5) of those being
consecutive. Standing or backpacking camps fulfill this requirement.
___ have spent eight (8) consecutive nights away from home and away from parents/guardians
(these do not have to be with Scouts)
___ have earned 16 stages of Outdoor Adventure Skills in Camping, Trail, Emergency and/or
Scoutcraft areas (or proof of equivalent skills). We suggest at least stage 4 in each area.
___ committed to fundraising at least half the money to go (approx. CA$3,000). The rest of the
money may be provided by the youth, parents/grandparents and/or sponsoring groups.
___ committed to participating in the patrol preparation as described on the attached page.
___ provide 3 references, two of which are from Scouters (at least one of these Scouters is
currently working with the Scout).
___have consent of parents/guardians to attend (forms will be provided)

___ have completed ten (10) nights in a tent, preferably in Scouting, with five (5) of those being
consecutive. Standing or backpacking camps fulfill this requirement.
___ (for patrol Scouters) have current (at the time of the jamboree) Standard First-Aid certification
(Red Cross/St. John’s Ambulance)
___ (for patrol Scouters) committed to working on fundraising with the youth so that they earn at
least half the money to go (approx. CA$2,500). The rest of the money may be provided by
the youth, parents/grandparents and/or sponsoring groups.
___ committed to participating in the patrol preparation as described on the attached page.
___ provide 3 references, one of which should be a current Scouter with which you team, and
one of which should be your Group Commissioner.
___ provide a Police Records Check with a Vulnerable Sector Check dated within 12 months
of January 1, 2025 (in accordance with Scouts Australia requirements)
Have the capacity to walk 20,000 steps per day for 10 straight days
Have a letter of Suitability for physical Activity signed by your physician

Expectations of Patrols prior to Departing for AJ2025
a patrol is composed of six (6) to eight (8)youth and two (2) Scouters
Prior to leaving for AJ2022, the expectation is that the patrol (youth and adult Scouter) will have worked together to complete these preparations:
- choose a name for your patrol that reflects Canada. (This needs to be approved by the Canadian Contingent Management Team so that we do not have duplication.)
- choose a youth patrol leader and an assistant youth patrol leader to work in team with the patrol Scouter.
- attend and participate in AJ2025 Canadian Contingent participant & Scouter conference calls and online meetings.
- do a daytrip together with full backpacks, on bus, subway, light rail transit and/or train. (adapt as available in your area).
- complete a camp (standing or backpacking) together for at least 2 nights.
- ensure that everyone has the Outdoor Adventures Skills (or equivalent skills and experience) and the nights camping required.
- work together in fundraising to raise at least half the money needed (the more the better). The rest of the money will need to be provided by the youth, parents/grandparents or sponsoring groups.
- practice answering questions you may be asked about Canada, such as “What does it mean to be Canadian? What do you eat in Canada? What do Canadians do for fun? What is unique to Canada? What animals do you have in Canada? What do you like about being Canadian?”
- learn facts about Australia, especially about the area where the jamboree will be held.
- plan for what you will pack and practice carrying the full backpack for at least 2 km.
- brainstorm ideas about what you will do while waiting in line-ups, on the long flight to AJ, etc.
- watch the Mutant Camels videos on the AJ2025 site about preparing as a patrol to attend AJ (eight videos will be posted.)
- discuss how to live and work with respect with those from a variety of nations, understanding that cultural practices and norms vary. Use the Scout Promise & Law as a basis for discussions.
- watch the “Tea Consent (clean)” video (available on YouTube) and discuss what it means to give and receive consent.
- review the information that will be provided on S.T.O.P. – how to handle yourself in uncomfortable situations (S: sidetrack T:tell O: observe & get out P:postpone) more info to come
- review the Scouts Canada Codes of Conduct (Youth & Adult). Develop a code of conduct for the patrol.
